A Hamptons Kitchen Renovation In Cronulla

A Coastal Classic For A Cronulla Family
A Hamptons kitchen is a coastal-classic style built on a neutral palette, white shaker or panelled cabinetry, natural stone benchtops and warm timber underfoot. This Cronulla renovation by Kitchen & Home Renovations Co. is the version we build most often across the Sutherland Shire — relaxed enough for a beachside home, formal enough to hold its own.
The owners came to us with a closed, dated kitchen that worked against the way they actually lived. They entertained constantly, cooked properly, and wanted the room to be where everyone ended up. They also wanted a look that would still read well in fifteen years — not a style they'd be tired of by the next trend cycle.
Hamptons was the obvious answer, but the detail is what makes or breaks it. Get the proportions of the door profile, the benchtop thickness and the splashback wrong and the whole thing tips into either flat or fussy. We spent the design stage on those decisions before a single cabinet was ordered.
- A Hamptons kitchen relies on a neutral base — white cabinetry, stone benchtops and timber floors — with one restrained accent colour doing the work.
- Kitchen & Home Renovations Co. removes the existing benchtop, tiles and splashback entirely and installs new engineered stone. Nothing is laid over the top of what was there.
- Shaker doors suit the style because the clean profile stays timeless, and our polyurethane finish can be painted in almost any colour.
- Navy blue is the safest strong accent in a Hamptons kitchen — it reads coastal rather than trend-driven, and it works on appliances, an island, or nothing at all.
- Every custom kitchen we install includes a built-in pet feeding station at no extra cost.
- Kitchen & Home Renovations Co. has 35 years' industry experience and more than 25,000 installations, working from a showroom at Taren Point in the Sutherland Shire.
What Makes A Kitchen Hamptons
Five decisions carry the style. Everything else is detail.
- CabinetryClassic white shaker doors in a polyurethane finish, with brushed metal handles and knobs for depth. Glass display cabinets above break up the run and let colour in without cluttering the benchtop.
- BenchtopsNew engineered stone in a soft white, squared off with a chunky profile. The thickness matters — it's what stops a white kitchen looking thin.
- SplashbackA light grey subway tile in a running bond, which gives texture and shadow that flat surfaces can't. A full stone splashback in the same benchtop material is the alternative if you want fewer grout lines.
- FlooringDarker timber plank. Greywash is the beachside default, but the deeper tone here gives the white cabinetry something to sit against.
- LightAn overhead skylight and French doors, so the room stays bright without relying on downlights during the day.
What We Did In This Cronulla Kitchen
Four stages, managed by our own team from design through to the final clean.
Design & Colour
We measured, mapped the way the family actually used the room, and settled the palette and door profile before anything was ordered. Samples went home with them so the whites could be checked against the existing floor and light.
Strip Out
The old benchtop, tiles and splashback came out completely. We don't lay new surfaces over old ones — the substrate gets checked and made good first, which is the part nobody sees and everybody feels later.
Cabinetry & Stone
Shaker doors in polyurethane, brushed metal hardware, glass-fronted display cabinets, and the new engineered stone benchtops templated and installed. Stone work is completed in less than a week once the cabinetry is set.
Finishing
Tiled splashback, tapware and sink, appliance install, and the built-in pet feeding station set into the island end. Site cleaned, rubbish taken, and a walk-through before we left.
A Room The Whole House Uses
What Went Into This Kitchen
Every kitchen we build is custom, so materials and finishes are specified to your home at design stage. Stone colours and door finishes shown here indicate the style of this project rather than a fixed package.
The Built-In Pet Feeding Station
We include a built-in pet feeding station with every custom kitchen we install, at no extra cost. It's a small thing that people mention to us years later.
The bowls sit recessed into the cabinetry and lifted off the floor, which keeps spills contained, stops the bowls sliding around, and takes a trip hazard out of the busiest room in the house. It also means no plastic mat parked in the middle of a kitchen you've just spent months getting right.
We set the height and position at design stage based on your pet, so it works from day one rather than becoming a feature nobody uses.
What The Owners Ended Up With
A kitchen that carries the whole ground floor — bright through the day, easy to cook in, and comfortable with ten people in it.
"From the outset the team have been the easiest and by far the best contractors we have dealt with. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Our kitchen is now a 'Wow'…"

Hamptons Kitchens, Answered
What is a Hamptons kitchen?
A Hamptons kitchen is a coastal-classic style built on a neutral palette — white or off-white cabinetry with a shaker or panelled door profile, stone benchtops, timber flooring and traditional tapware. One restrained accent colour, usually navy or soft grey, carries the personality. It sits between formal and relaxed, which is why it works so well in Sydney beachside suburbs like Cronulla.
Does a Hamptons kitchen work in a smaller home?
Yes. The style is defined by materials and proportion rather than floor area. In a smaller kitchen we keep the palette tighter, use glass-fronted upper cabinets to lift the eye, and let the splashback carry the texture instead of adding a contrasting island. The danger in a small room is over-detailing, not the style itself.
What benchtop suits a Hamptons kitchen?
Engineered stone in a soft white or a lightly veined marble-look is the standard choice, and porcelain is an option where you want a large-format or full-height splashback in the same material. We remove the existing benchtop, tiles and splashback completely and install new stone — nothing is laid over the top of the old surface. Benchtops are available in 20mm and 40mm.
Do I have to use shaker doors?
No, but the profile does a lot of the work. Shaker is the most-used option because the clean lines stay timeless and it suits both traditional and contemporary rooms. Our polyurethane doors can be painted in almost any colour, so a light blue or soft grey on the island with white perimeter cabinetry is a common variation.
How long does a kitchen renovation like this take?
Every kitchen is different, so we confirm the real timeline with you at quote stage. Benchtop and stone work is completed in less than a week once cabinetry is set, and a full kitchen renovation runs longer. We sequence the work so you're without a functioning kitchen for as short a period as possible.
